Chambersburg roundup: CV bests Trojans in soccer

Kadence Decker

GIRLS SOCCER
Cumberland Valley 3, Chambersburg 2: The Trojans held a lead twice on the Eagles, but CV fought back to claim a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory  at New Kingstown on Wednesday evening.

Kadence Decker scored the first goal for the Trojans (5-6, 2-5 MPC) and Cumberland Valley pulled even right away. But before the first half ended, Aubrey Pyne scored again for Chambersburg — both goals were assisted by Ahsia Thomas.

CV finally tied the game with 9 1/2 minutes left, and got the game-winner on a penalty kick for a handball with 5 minutes left.

“I would say this was our most complete game of the year,” Trojan coach Ed Franchi said. “I feel bad for the players who fought so hard and came up just short.”

BOYS SOCCER
Cumberland Valley 2, Chambersburg 0: The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in District 3, defeated the Trojans, ranked No. 3, in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest at Trojan Stadium on Wednesday night.

CV had more shots (4-3) and corner kicks (4-3) than Chambersburg (8-3, 4-3 MPC), which had a seven-game win streak halted.

“We got outplayed,” Trojan coach Corey Grove said. “CV is a top team and we’d have to be nearly perfect to get results and we were far from it. It’s a good learning experience for our boys to stay humble.”
