G-A roundup: Soccer teams sweep Gettysburg

Abi Guthrie

GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 2, Gettysburg 0: The Blue Devils played the majority of the second half down a man, but still held the Warriors scoreless and took a Mid Penn Colonial win Wednesday night at Kaley Field.

Rylee Henson and Haley Noblit each scored a goal in the first half to give Greencastle the upper hand. Abi Guthrie was credited with an assist.

But the second half was not as kind.

“It was a tough second half,” G-A coach Chris Noblit said. “We had a significant player get a red card with over 30 minutes to play and we had to hold off Gettysburg playing 10 v 11. I’m really proud of the way we responded.”

The Blue Devils are now 9-0 (6-0 MPC).

Henry Drawbaugh

BOYS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 1, Gettysburg 0: Henry Drawbaugh’s goal in the 56th minute proved to be the difference in a Mid Penn Colonial road win for the Blue Devils over the Warriors on Wednesday night.

Caleb Baine assisted on the goal for Greencastle (5-2, 3-2 MPC). Goalkeeper Ethan Ford made 5 saves to preserve the shutout.

G-A coach Aric Bruner said, “What a gutsy performance by the boys tonight. We are at the end of our brutal stretch of games and have been hit by the injury bug. The boys dug deep tonight and put together a very solid win.

“I thought our back line locked the very quick Gettysburg front line down all night. We were forced to throw some new guys into the game for extended minutes and our core in the middle of Chase Davidson, Caleb Baine and Garrett Decker were able to control the tempo for the majority of the night.”
