The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers punched in an early goal and went on to defeat Broadfording 6-0 Tuesday in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference boys soccer game.
“We started off strong, with Finlay Smith hitting the opening goal just five minutes into the game,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “We are striving to put together a whole game. We have been close but just have not managed to do it yet. Defense had another strong showing. BCA added a few new skilled players. Aaron (Minnier), Peddy (Preston Hammond), Jadon (Jetnarayan), and Caleb (Decker) did a great job shutting them down.”
Gage Brookens scored two goals for the Blazers (6-3-1, 5-2 MDCC). Joining him and Smith in the scoring column were Landon Kellogg, Christian Booher and Nathan Minnier with a goal apiece.
Recording assists were Kellogg, Nollin Egolf, Bradley Stayman, Cort Stouffer, Aaron Minnier and Titus Hott. Goalkeeper Gabe Beckering made eight saves.
On Monday, the Blazers dropped a 5-2 non-league decision to St. Maria Goretti. The Blazers led 2-1 after Smith’s second-half goal, but Goretti scored the game’s last four goals. Brookens scored the first Blazer goal.
