McCONNELLSBURG — The Greencastle-Antrim girls volleyball team brought home a championship Saturday when it won the Lady Spartan Tournament in McConnellsburg.
The Blue Devils took first place in their pool play, then faced off against rival James Buchanan in the championship match. G-A fought the Rockets in the first game, but were tripped up, 25-27.
Greencastle then won the next two games, 25-16, and 19-17 in a tight third set that was anyone’s game to take.
“I was so proud of these girls for remaining calm and coming back from an 18-8 deficit in set 1,” Blue Devil coach Corry Eagler said. “They made the correct adjustments and outlasted the other team, going back-and-forth until the final point.”
Kiley Burkholder of Greencastle was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. In the final, she racked up 10 kills, 4 aces and 8 digs.
Also putting up good stats for the Blue Devils were Addie Kagarise (10 kills, 4 blocks); Madeline Eagler (30 assists, 7 digs); Abigail Eagler (5 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs); Kate Furnish (4 kills, 5 blocks); Bri Woodring (13 digs) and Ryleigh Davis (8 digs).
