FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Gettysburg 2: The Blue Devils got goals from three different players and eased past the Warriors in a Mid Penn Colonial matchup Thursday evening at Gettysburg.
Alyshia Thurmond opened the scoring with an unassisted tally, Abigail Kielek notched the second goal off an assist by Ainsley Swindell, and Swindell finished off the scoring after an assist from Carlee Knepper.
Swindell has scored six goals in three games.
Goalie Jade Erazo made four saves for Greencastle (2-1, 2-1 MPC).
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Shippensburg: The Blue Devils wrapped things up quickly against the Greyhounds, rolling to game scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 25-14 in a Mid Penn Colonial match on Thursday on the road.
“We started off hot, but struggled in receive all night,” G-A coach Cory Eagler said. “The girls pulled through with strong serving and balanced offense.”
Greencastle (3-0, 2-0 MPC) piled up 23 aces as a team, with Ryleigh Davis (7), Madeline Eagler (6), Mia Jones (4) and Abigail Eagler (4) leading the way. Serving points leaders were Madeline Eagler (17), Davis (12), Abigail Eagler (10) and Jones (7).
Other leaders included Alaina Garling (10 assists), Kate Furnish (6 kills) and Abigail Eagler 7 digs, while Olalla Sanchez had 5 digs, Madeline Eagler 8 assists and Jones 5 kills.
BOYS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 3, James Buchanan 1: Mitch Lagoe scored a pair of goals to create the difference in the Blue Devils’ Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Rockets in Mercersburg on Thursday night.
Garrett Decker opened the scoring for G-A (2-0, 1-0 MPC) on an assist from Henry Drawbaugh and Lagoe made it 2-0 before halftime after a pass from Andrew Bowers.
Midway in the second half, James Buchanan pulled within a goal when Noah Barnhart scored, but Lagoe notched his second one six minutes later, with Cooper Noblit getting an assist.
“We played a very solid game all around,” Greencastle coach Aric Bruner said. “In the first half, we certainly looked like a team coming off of a week break in between games. I thought the boys knocked it around and played a great possession game in the second half.
“Garrett Decker was tremendous tonight in the middle. Mitch played a very solid game up top as well. I’m very pleased with our performance in our first two games. We need to clean up some small mistakes yet, but I like the direction that this young team is heading.”
Ethan Ford made 4 stops for G-A, while Jadyn Burkholder stopped 8 shots for JB.
GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim11 , James Buchanan 0: The Blue Devils reached double figures in scoring for the second time this week in taking a Mid Penn Colonial win over the Rockets at Kaley Field on Thursday night.
Seven players for G-A (4-0, 2-0 MPC) scored goals, including Maddie Koons (3), Natalie Hanks (2), Mia Libby (2), Haley Noblit (1), Caterina Marchiano (1), Hailey Baker (1) and Caroline Logsdon (1).
Seven players also contributed an assist: Koons, Hanks, Noblit, Abi Guthrie, Brooke Guthrie, Zhen Reuter and Lydia Mowen. Lexi Nelson and Mowen each made one save.
The Rockets are 1-1-1 (0-1 MPC).
