Enos Yeager race yields fine girls effort

The Enos Yeager Invitational cross country meet was held Friday afternoon at Chambersburg’s Tim Cook Memorial Course and the girls race came down to two outstanding local runners.

At a scrimmage last week, Claire Paci of Greencastle-Antrim edged Camryn Kiser of Chambersburg by just 4 seconds. On Friday, Paci was able to push the margin to 12 seconds — she finished the 2.33-mile shortened course in 14:28, while Kiser hit the line in 14:40.

The Trojans put four other runners in the top 11 of the race, which dies not crown a team champion. Madelyn Koons was fifth in 16:00, Lexi Boyd was sixth in 16:14, Fernanda Orihuela took seventh in 16:38 and Abigale Bricker was 11th in 16:58. Raegan Hepner was also in the top 20 (15th) with a time of 17:17.

For the Blue Devils, Katherine Board was 12th in 16:59 and Celeste Paniego-Martinez was 25th in 18:16.

Among other area schools, Waynesboro’s Bella Ruefle was fourth in 15:57, Shippensburg’s Katharine Shope was 17th in 17:39, and Sydney Fleming of James Buchanan finished in 17:51 for 19th place.

In the boys race, Carlisle put the first two runners across, with Kevin Shank winning in 12:14.

Chambersburg’s Ari Snyder (12:29) edged G-A’s Hayden Parks (12:36) for third place. The Blue Devils copped the sixth through eighth places as Dalton Noblit (13:12), Joel Amstutz (13:21) and Kyle Baker (13:21) ran strong, plus Caden Hudson was 11th in 13:42.

For the Trojans, Aiden Alleman placed fifth in 13:08, Kaden Rife was ninth in 13:25 and Ryan Benbow took 14th in 14:01.

Waynesboro had the 12th-place finisher in Joey Jacobs (13:54), Bryce Partillo of Ship was 35th (15:19), and Wyatt Boyer of JB was 38rd in 15:25.
