Greencastle-Antrim 2, East Pennsboro 1: The Blue Devils got their season off to an excellent start Wednesday night by taking a non-league victory over the Panthers at Kaley Field.
Cooper Noblit scored a goal in the first half and Andrew Bowers made it 2-0 in the second before East Pennsboro’s Giovanni Esposito made it close with a tally.
G-A coach Arik Bruner said, “This game was really special for me, personally, going against my alma mater and with my brother being the head coach of East Pennsboro. Our team is very young (only two seniors), so we have been going through a big learning curve early on this year. We had two scrimmages in which we did not score, so to finally put some in the back of the net, from two newcomers to our team, really helped the boys settle down.
“Our midfield really did a great job to take that momentum and control the tempo, and I thought our defense clamped down and did a great job of closing it out. It was a great opening game to the season – and the atmosphere was awesome, with a ton of students and community coming out to support the boys.”
Ethan Ford made seven saves for the Blue Devils, the same number as EP keeper Kayden Gelb.
