HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers notched a second-half goal and emerged with a 1-1 tie against Highland View Academy Thursday in a non-league boys soccer game.
“Tough game,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “HVA outworked us in the first half and was able to sneak in a goal. Their keeper made some really tough saves and kept us out of the back of their net. We were able to adjust at halftime and put several good shots on goal.”
One of those shots by senior Nollin Egolf found the net and tied the game. Sophomore Gage Brookens had the assist.
“Preston (Peddy) Hammond played the best defensive half we have seen him play,” Hott said. “Aaron Minnier (Player of the Game) played several key positions for us and helped get us on the right offensive track. He was exceptionally good with his movement off the ball.”
Goalkeeper Gabe Beckering made nine saves for the Blazers (1-0-1), who travel to Broadfording for a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game Friday.
