With everything stacked against them Hollidaysburg rose from the losers bracket and defeated Greencastle twice Monday to win the Pennsylvania State Little League Championship and advance to the Mid Atlantic Regional in Bristol, CT with 6-2 and 10-0 wins over Greencastle.
Greencastle jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI single from Connor Flohr and made it 2-0 in the third on an error which turned out to be the last run Greencastle would score.
Cam Rakaczewski retired the first ten hitters he faced. With one out in the bottom of the fourth Chase Link and Braden Hatch hit back to back singles. Caleb Detrick then hit a1-2 pitch over the left field fence to give Hollidaysburg a 3-2 lead. After a hit by pitch and walk Brody Dull slammed a three run homer to give Hollidaysburg a 6-2 lead and that is the way it ended forcing a second game for a winner take all state championship game.
In the second game Chase Link hit a pair of two run homers to lead Hollidaysburg to a 10-0 victory in 5 innings.
Holloidaysburg will play Washington, DC Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the first game of the Mid Atlantic Regional..
It was the second consecutive year Greencastle finished runner up in Pennsylvania. The losses today ended a fantastic tournament season for Greencastle, they finished 13-3.
