Greencastle routs Keystone to advance to state championship game

Braydyn Knable hit a two run pinch hit home run for the second consecutive game.

Greencastle scored early and often, picking up 14 hits to defeat Keystone 13-2 and advance to the Pennsylvania State Championship game Monday.

Greencastle wasted no time jumping on Keystone for five runs in the top of the first inning.  Cam Rakaczewski was hit by a pitch, Luke Anderson followed with a single, both runners advanced on the throw. Rakaczewski scored when Connor Flohr grounded out to make it 1-0 Greencastle. Back to back walks, two stolen bases and two passed balls made it 3-0, Quinton Carr followed with a double to give Greencastle a 4-0 lead, a Spencer Long single gave Greencastle a 5-0 lead.

Keystone picked up two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the gap to 5-2.

Greencastle blew the game open with a five run third inning. Carr singled to lead off and for the second consecutive game Braydyn Kanable hit a pinch hit two run homer on the first pitch to make it 7-2. A passed ball and a run scoring single by Flohr put Greencastle up 9-2. Jex McDowell followed with a double to make it 10-2.

McDowell would make it 11-2 in the fifth with an RBI single, Carr’s third hit of the game produced another run to make it 12-2, Cole Burkholder doubled home Carr to put Greencastle ahead 13-2.

Connor Flohr retired the side in the bottom of the fifth to end the game with the 10 run rule.

Flohr went the distance for Greencastle allowing two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out seven.

Quinton Carr led Greencastle with three hits and two RBI, Flohr and McDowell had two hits and two RBI each, Rakaczewski also had a pair of hits for Greencastle.

Greencastle is the only team in the tournament without a loss, and will play for the Pennsylvania State Little League Championship on Monday at 4:00 p.m.They will play the survivor of Sunday’s Keystone- Hollidaysburg game on Sunday.

Greencastle is now 3-0 in the state tournament outscoring opponents 28-2. the win  Greencastle to 13-1 overall in tournament play.

The Pennsylvania state champion will advance to the East Regional August 7-12 at Bristol, CT and will open tournament play Sunday August 7 vs. Washington, DC at 10:00 A.M.
