Greencastle clinches state berth with 11-1 win over Dillsburg

Greencastle 12U punched their ticket to the Pennsylvania State Little League Baseball State Championship Tournament for the second year in a row with an 11-1 win at Dillsburg Saturday night in a game shortened to four innings by the 10 run rule. The victory gave Greencastle the Section 7 Championship and a berth in the state tournament in Bradford July 27-August 1.

Bryce Wilhide went 3 for 3 with a double and 5 RBI, Connor Flohr was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Cam Rakaczewski was 2 for 3 with a double, homerun and 3 RBI.

Rakaczewski produced another solid performance on the mound for Greencastle pitching four innings, allowing one run,four hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

After an hour and fifteen minute rain delay, Greencastle rebounded in a big way after losing their first tournament game Friday night, they wasted no time getting the bats going.

Dillsburg went up 1-0 in the top of the first when Brady Anderson doubled, and scored on a Trevor Fromm single.

Greencastle immediately tied it in the bottom of the first, lead off hitter Cam Rakaczewski hit a 2-1 pitch over the center field fence to tie the game 1-1. Luke Anderson followed with a walk and advanced to third on two passed balls. Connor Flohr had an infield single scoring Anderson to give Greencastle a 2-1 lead, Jex McDowell walked and  Bryce Wilhide lined a double to left field to make it 4-1.

Flohr delivered a run producing single in the bottom of the second to make it 5-1 Greencastle.

In the bottom of the third Wilhide had an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-1 and  Rakaczewski hit a two run double to make it 8-1,

Greencastle closed out the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two run single by Wilhide putting Greencastle up 10-1, Kelson Wenger sent Greencastle to the state tournament with a game ending single to make it 11-1.

Greencastle will play Section 5 winner Back Mountain National Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. The game will be played at the Kessel Athletic Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford
300 Campus Drive, Bradford, PA. Wednesday’s game and all Greencastle games in the state tournament will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting.
The game will  be simulcast on 93.7 FM WRGG.

Section 2- Hermitage Area
Section 3-Keystone
Section 4- Holidaysburg
Section 5- Back Mountain National
Section 6-Southern Lehigh
Section 7-Greencastle
Section 8-Aston-Middletown
The winner will advance to the East Regional in Bristol, CT August 7-12

GABSA is planning a celebration for tomorrow, Sunday July 24th from 5-8pm.at Clary Field. We are celebrating the success of our all of our teams this year. This is a community event so invite your friends and family to help us celebrate. The concession stand will be opened and serving our standard menu items as well as pulled pork sandwiches and loaded pork nachos. Concession stand will be opening at 5pm, music and a dunk tank will be provided for entertainment as well as some other fun activities.
