Cam Rakaczewski pitched a perfect game, striking out all 15 batters he faced and Greencastle scored four runs in the second and nine in the fifth to defeat Carlisle 13-0 to win their first game in the District 14 Major West Double Elimination Tournament. The game ended after five innings with the 10 run rule. Carlisle was not able to put the ball in play, of Rakaczewski’s 15 strikeouts, eight were swinging and seven were called third strikes. Rakaczewski threw 68 pitches, 46 for strikes.
Greencastle scored four times in the second, Nate Herrmann led off with a walk, Cole Burkholder singled advancing Herrmann to third who scored on the next pitch on a passed ball, Quinton Carr had a bunt single and Rakaczewsk hit a three run homer to center field to give Greencastle a 4-0 lead.
Greencastle blew the game open with a nine run top of the fifth. Luke Anderson and Quinton Carr each had a two RBI double, Spencer Long a two RBI single and Cole Burkholder singled in a run.
Greencastle is 5-0 overall in the tournament, in 24 innings Greencastle pitchers have allowed just three runs on seven hits walking two and striking out 61. Rakaczewski has thrown nine perfect innings striking out 26 of the 27 batters he faced.
Greencastle has outscored their opponents 72-3.
Greencastle will host Shippensburg at Clary Field in Greencastle Wednesday July 6 at 6:00 p.m.The game will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting beginning at 5:50 p.m.
Carlisle will play South Middleton in an elimination game at South Middleton Wednesday.
