Fannett-Metal(11-8) dropped their final regular season game at home to Claysburg-Kimmel 4-3. Earlier in the season the Tigers had easily handled the Bulldogs by a score of a 20-1. “When we are struggling to score runs offensively, we have to play clean defense and that’s just not been happening in most of our losses this season”, Coffman said.
The Tigers struck first in the 3rd inning tonight to take a 1-0 lead when Luke Coffman led off with a single and stole second. He moved to 3rd on a Landon Arnold fly ball and scored on a Wyatt Appleby rbi single.
Tiger pitcher Luke Coffman worked out of a first inning jam and then sat the Bulldogs down in order the next three innings. He held the Bulldogs scoreless until the 5th inning. The Bulldogs scored two unearned runs in the inning on a botched bunt defense and fly ball that was misplayed to take a 2-1 lead. “Luke pitched a solid game and put his team in a position to win the game”, Coffman said.
In the 7th, Coffman walked the lead off hitter and was lifted for reliever Landon Arnold. The Bulldogs scored two runs(1 earned) in the inning on two more walks, a hit by pitch and an error to make it 4-1.
The Tigers did not go down quietly in the bottom of the 7th as Landon Arnold drew a two out walk and Wyatt Appleby stroked a single to left. Rylin Sharar singled to score Arnold and Colton Friese doubled to score courtesy runner Broc Hostler. The Bulldogs were able to get a strike out to end the game with a 4-3 victory.
Luke Coffman went 6+ innings and took the loss. He had 3 BB, 2 K and scattered 5 hits. He gave up 2 runs(0 ER). Landon Arnold pitched the 7th. He gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 1 hit. He had 2 BB, 1 HBP.
Offensively, Wyatt Appleby, Rylin Sharar and Luke Coffman each had a pair of hits. Colton Friese had a double. Luke Coffman had three stolen bases and Drew Goshorn had two stolen bases.
“The second season starts next week. We have a golden opportunity in front of us if we can put it all together. We have to play with more passion and consistency than what I’ve seen the past few weeks. This team can be a dangerous”, Coffman said.
The Tigers will wait for the district five pairings to come out later this week.
