Fannett-Metal(10-6) travelled to Southern Huntingdon for an ICC Matchup against the Rockets(12-6). The Tigers had shut the Rockets out last week with a 5-0 victory. In this game, the Rockets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first and led the entire way until the Tigers erupted for seven unanswered runs in the 7th inning to take home the 10-5 come from behind victory. “This is our 4th or 5th late inning comeback victory of the year”, Coach Paul Coffman said.
The Tigers trailed 5-3 going into the 7th inning. Rocket left hander Josh Fleck is a quality pitcher and he worked through several jams in the middle innings to hold the Tigers to three runs. But in the 7th he reached his pitch limit and the Rockets turned to Nate Myers in relief. Wyatt Appleby and Rylin Sharar got the rally started as 10 straight Tiger batters reached base in the 7th. Drew Goshorn provided the big hit with a 2 run single to give the Tigers the lead. Jake Coffman and Luke Coffman had RBI’s to score Hunter Hill and Colton Friese. Landon Arnold’s infield hit was misplayed by the first baseman to score two more runs. When the dust settled, The Tigers had built a 10-5 lead.
In the bottom of the 7th, reliever Colton Friese allowed a lead off walk. The next batter hit a sharp ground ball to Wyatt Appleby at third who threw it to Luke Coffman at second who turned a beautiful 5-4-3 double play. Friese got the next batter to ground out to secure the victory.
Fannett-Metal right hander Luke Coffman got the start and pitched 5 solid innings. He allowed 5 runs(2ER) and scattered 7 hits. He had 4 K and 2 BB. “ Luke commanded the ball well today and gave us a chance to win by pitching deep into the game”, Coffman said. Reliever Colton Friese got the win today with 2 innings of relief.
Offensively, the Tigers had 12 hits on the day. Drew Goshorn led the attack with three hits. Rylin Sharar and Alex Umbrell also had a pair of hits.
