Fannett-Metal downs Tussey Mountain 4-2

Fannett-Metal (9-4, 8-3 ICC) travelled to Tussey Mountain and came home with a hard fought 4-2 victory.  The Tigers gave the ball to right handed pitcher Luke Coffman who responded with a stellar pitching performance.  The Tiger senior threw 87 pitches, 63 for strikes as he pounded the strike zone all game long.  He gave up 2 runs(1ER), had 6 K, 2 BB and scattered 4 hits on his way to the complete game victory.

With the Tigers trailing 2-0, the Tigers tied the game in the 4th inning.  Up to that point, Titans starter Connor Jones had sat the Tigers down in order.  “We had a little team talk in the 4th inning as I felt too many guys were just going through the motions”, Coach Paul Coffman said.  The Tigers responded in the inning by scoring two runs.   Luke Coffman drew a walk to lead off the inning and was moved to second by Landon Arnold.  Arnold ended up being safe on the play as well.  Wyatt Appleby singled to score Coffman.   Rylin Sharar reached on an error.  On the next play Sharar got caught in a rundown to score Arnold and tie the game.

The game would remain tied through the 5th and 6th innings as both pitchers sat their opponents down in order.  In the 7th the Tigers Wyatt Appleby led off with a double.  He was moved to 3rd by Sharar and scored when Colton Friese belted an RBI double to the fence.  Friese would later score on a two out RBI single by Drew Goshorn to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.   Coffman sat the Titans down in order in the 7th to secure the victory.

“We made a couple mistakes early in the game but after that we played solid defense to give Luke the support he deserved, Coffman said.  The Tigers Alex Umbrell made a spectacular diving play in the 3rd inning to save a run.

The Tigers return to action on Monday for a double header vs Everett. The first game is scheduled to start at 2:00.
