Greencastle-Antrim 8, Bermudian Springs 0: Jace Szaflarski came within one out of a complete game and Ethan Ford knocked in four runs to lead the Blue Devils to a non-league over the Eagles on Friday afternoon.
Szaflarski pitched 6.2 innings before his pitch count ran out. He allowed six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight. Austin Simmons relieved and got the final out. Of his 100 pitches, 74 were strikes.
“It was a great game by Jace,” G-A coach Eric Shaner said. “It’s a shame the pitch count robbed him of a complete game shutout by just one batter.”
Greencastle (7-1) racked up 12 hits, including a 4-for-4 performance by Carter Reid, who also scored three times. Ford and Darren Kline each hit a pair of hits.
The Blue Devils broke up a scoreless game with five runs in the third inning. Austin Wyant led off with a hit, stole second and third, and came home on a grounder by Shaun Eby. Reid singled, then advanced to third on an error and scored on a base hit by Connor Rohm. Aidan Grudzinski singled, then a double by Ford to left field brought both runners home. Kline then hit a single to drive Ford home.
