Chambersburg’s Ella Fatyol, center, leads the pack on her way to winning the 100 hurdles event at the Tim Cook Invitational on Saturday at Trojan Stadium. She had a time of 17.03.
CHAMBERSBURG — Saturday did not provide anywhere close to the best weather that spring can offer, but the athletes competing at the 17th annual Tim Cook Invitational at Trojan Stadium still produced three meet records and plenty of other good performances.
The event drew 22 teams and several other quality individuals, but Franklin County athletes came up with seven wins in girls events and five more by the boys.
Chambersburg boys coach and meet director Bob Walker said, “We had 800 athletes honor Coach Cook’s memory today.”

Natalia Holmes of Chambersburg, left, barely defeats Carlisle’s Rhyan Mitchell to win the 100 in 12.54 at the Tim Cook Invitational on Saturday.
Shippensburg’s Jillian Sydnor was the only local double winner in individual events. She took the 200 in 27.04, and set a school record with her winning time of 58.70 in the 400.
Greencastle-Antrim did well in the distance events, as expected. On the boys’ side, Weber Long breezed to the 1600 title in 4:28.19 (winning by 8 seconds) and Hayden Parks took the 3200 in 9:50.13. They also joined Caden Hudson and Dalton Noblit in the 4 x 800 race and won that in a time of 8:20.17.
For the Blue Devil girls, Claire Paci picked up a win in the 3200 in 11:00.44 and was third in a very competitive 1600. Her time of 5:04.77 in the mile broke the previous meet record, but the winner, Olivia Haas of Blue Mountain, put down a time of 5:04.12.
Chambersburg’s girls came up with four victories. Ella Fatyol captured the 110 hurdles, Natalia Holmes ran a time of 12.52 to hit the line first in the 100 (Carlisle’s Rhyan Mitchell ran 12.61), Kate Etter’s effort of 17-2 proved to be best in the long jump (she also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-9.5) and the 4 x 800 relay team won in 10:17.92. That team included Camryn Kiser, Olivia Rieck, Lexi Boyd and Allie List. Kiser was also the runner-up in the 3200.
Trojan girls coach Chris Monheim said, “Fatyol’s win was especially impressive for a ninth-grader. All in all, it was a very nice day for us, especially considering the cold and windy conditions.”
Chambersburg earned one victory in the boys events, the 4 x 100 relay. The team of Darion Baumgartner, Michael Kelly, Tanner Meyers and anchor Antonio Harrison recorded a time of 43.89.

Weber Long of Greencastle-Antrim already has a huge lead on lap 2 of the 1600 at Saturday’s Tim Cook Invitational. He won comfortably in 4:28.19.
The Trojan boys also had five runner-up efforts — Harrison (200), Edis Korkutovic (300 hurdles), Josh Mertz (discus) and the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relay teams.
Walker said, “I like where the boys team is at right now. We’ve had one of our best first three weeks of training and I’m looking forward to the pursuit of excellence.”
In the boys high jump, Shippensburg had two athletes duel for the top spot. In the end, Connor Landreth picked up the win with a jump of 6-5, edging teammate (and defending state champion) Dakota Arana (6-4).
Trea Kater of Shippensburg was second in the long jump and Waynesboro’s Jaylon Bean was the triple jump runner-up. For the girls, G-A’s Claire Coons placed second in the 400 and True Benchoff of Waynesboro took second in the 300 hurdles.
