WRESTLING
Chambersburg 47, Ephrata 29: The Trojans spotted the Mountaineers a 17-0 lead, then roared back to claim a non-league victory on Saturday afternoon to finish their season with a winning record.

Chambersburg (7-6) won the next five bouts with four pins and a forfeit to take a 30-17 lead.

“The kids wrestled very well as a team and we are moving in the right direction,” Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said. “Finally, we’re getting our kids healthy.”

Ryder Davenport (172), Aiden Hight (189), Zack Evans (215) and Avery Kuhns (285) notched pins, and Zach Sherman (106) won by forfeit.  After a forfeit to Ephrata, Rylan Carter (120) and Luke Mentzer (126) racked up pins and Karl Shindledecker (132) won by technical fall.

Mentzer said, “We got a huge win by Hight, who pinned Jim Ellis, who was ranked No. 9 in the state.”

Hight and Ellis put together a wild first period, with the score 9-9. In the second, Hight escaped, took Ellis down and pinned him.

Chambersburg will compete in the Section III Tournament on Feb. 19 at Mechanicsburg.

The Trojans turned the ball over on three of the next four possessions, and the Rams (13-4, 10-2 MPC) took advantage with a basket, two free throws each by Donovan Hill and Keon Dockins, then Dockins, Andrew Rinaldi and Christian Wilburn each hit 1 of 2 foul shots for CD to clinch it.
