The Rockets hosted the Tigers (8-8, 7-3 ICC) in non-league contest on Tuesday evening and won by a score of 70-62. The Rockets took a 17-15 lead after one quarter of play. It was the 2nd quarter that proved to be the difference in the game as the Tigers struggled scoring while the Rockets controlled the boards in the quarter to take a 34-22 at the half. “We just didn’t rebound the ball well enough to win tonight especially in the first half, and they were able to convert too many offensive rebounds for points. Senior Bryce Hissong had a very strong game for the Rockets tonight scoring 16 of their first half points and 26 points total for the game. Give him credit, he worked hard all night and had a nice game”, FM Coach Paul Coffman said.
The Tigers came out in the 3rd and put together a solid quarter to trim the lead to 48-43 . Wyatt Appleby scored 11 points in the quarter for the Tigers. “We executed every phase of the game in the 3rd quarter but we couldn’t sustain that effort in the 4th quarter as the Rockets held on for a 70-62 victory. This was our worst free throw shooting night of the season as we only converted 10-23 for 43% from the line. I think the big floor was a factor for us throughout the game tonight”, Coffman said.
Appleby led the Tigers with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Hunter Hill had 15 points. Evan Wingert had 7 points , Ayden Warren 6 points and Drew Goshorn chipped in 5 points. Luke Coffman had 9 rebounds and 3 assists. The Rockets had three players reach double figures on their senior night led by seniors Bryce Hissong with 26 points and Trent Amsley with 19 points. Jayce Piper had 12 points.
The Rockets Junior Varsity won a 51-35 victory over the Tigers. The loss ends a five game winning streak for the Tigers.
F-M will return to action on Friday evening for a home contest with Forbes Road. The varsity game is scheduled to start at 6:00.
