Greencastle-Antrim 61, James Buchanan 42: The Rockets had already beaten the Blue Devils twice this season, but Tuesday night, Greencastle turned the tables, outscoring JB in each quarter to gradually pull away for a Mid Penn Colonial victory at home.

Jackson Wright was the catalyst for G-A (5-10, 3-6 MPC), which won its third straight game. Wright tallied a career-high 22 points, had several blocked shots and grabbed numerous rebounds. His highest point total for the season had been 12 points.

He got plenty of help from Conner Wright (17 points) and Eli Sterling (16). That trio combined for all but 6 of the Blue Devils’ points.

Jayce Piper scored 17 for James Buchanan (5-9, 2-7 MPC)), while Trenton Miller and Cade Layton each tallied 11.

Six consecutive points by Piper gave the Rockets their last lead at 19-18 late in the second quarter, but two buckets underneath by Jackson Wright, sandwiched around a Conner Wright drive, helped make it 26-20 at the break.

In the third quarter, Sterling got hot inside the lane with some short jumpers — he scored 14 of his 16 in the second half. Piper rattled in a 3-pointer just before the buzzer at the end of the third to bring JB within 46-35. But baskets by both Wrights and Sterling, a free throw by Blake Shadoan and another field goal inside by Sterling jumped the score to 53-37 and the Blue Devils coasted from there.

James Buchanan 51, Greencastle-Antrim 46: The Rockets took the lead late in the game and made their free throws down the stretch (7-for-12 in the fourth quarter) to upset the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial game Tuesday night in Mercersburg. G-A had beaten JB twice already this season.

The biggest sequence came with the score tied 43-43 with just under 2 minutes left to play. The Rockets’ MacKenzie Stoner hit her first foul shot, but missed the second. However, JB’s Campbelle Dayley grabbed the offensive rebound and put it back in for a 46-43 advantage.

James Buchanan (10-3, 7-2 MPC), winners of 7 in a row, trailed 27-20 at the half, but outscored the Blue Devils 31-19 in the second half.

The Blue Devils (11-3, 7-2 MPC) shot only 26% from the field, including just 6-for-25 from 3-point range.

For Greencastle, Lauren Pool led with 12 points and 7 rebounds, but she fouled out with 2:10 remaining. Haley Noblit scored 11 points and had 3 assists, Mia Libby totaled 10 points and 4 assists, Rylee Henson had 6 points and Shaina Overcash contributed 5 points and 7 boards.

The Rockets got 20 points from Stoner, including 10 in the third quarter, Carly Sollenberger put up 12 points and Kaleigh Hartman added 10.
