G-A roundup: Blue Devils split with ‘Boro; girls move to 10-1

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 46, Waynesboro 26: The Maidens played a strong first half and trailed the heavily-favored Blue Devils only 18-14 at halftime. But G-A had a big third quarter to steer its way to a Mid Penn Colonial home victory Friday night.

Waynesboro scored the first basket of the second half, but Greencastle (10-1, 6-0 MPC) outscored it 17-2 the rest of the quarter to take a 17-point lead after three periods.

Playing without point guard Haley Noblit, the Blue Devils got 18 points from Mia Libby (14 in the second half) and a double-double from Lauren Pool — 13 points and 11 rebounds. Libby also had 8 boards and 4 steals and Ainsley Swindell added 7 points and 5 rebounds, while Meadow Gambacurta contributed 4 points and 4 rebounds.

Slaydon Fisher led the Maidens with 13 points.

Waynesboro 52, Greencastle-Antrim 23: The Indians erased all doubt in the Mid Penn Colonial contest Friday night by racing to a 22-4 lead after one quarter and 37-12 by halftime over the Blue Devils.

For Boro (7-2, 7-0 MPC), Reese Cover scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half. Ryan Shaffer contributed 13 points and Jaylon Bean added 9. Waynesboro faces Shippensburg on the road next Tuesday in a battle for first place in the Colonial.

For Greencastle (2-8, 1-5 MPC), which managed only 7 baskets, Blake Shadoan led the way with 6 points and Adam Horst scored 4.
