Shippensburg, (5-1, 3-0MPC) placed three players in double figures led by Jeremy Thomas’ 22 to lift the Greyhounds to a 55-42 win over Central Dauphin East in non-conference action Tuesday night.
Both teams started slowly with Shippensburg holding a one point lead, 8-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers, (3-4, 2-2MPCommonwealth) closed to within three at 18-15, but a short jumper by Thomas and his follow-up off a miss shot pushed the lead to seven, 22-15 at the half.
Shippensburg started the second half on an 11-2 run fueled by consecutive steals by Jayden Statum, who scored 17, and a three pointer by Thomas to stretch the lead by the end of three, 35-21.
The Panthers were able to cut the lead to eight at 44-36 mid-way through the fourth quarter but Shippensburg got baskets from Anthony Smith, (12 points), and Thomas to increase the lead.
The Greyhounds were able to put the game away from the foul line where they finished 16 for 20.
Shippensburg head coach, Ray Staver said, “We defended extremely well and we got some big buckets when we needed them. Collectively, this was our best win of the season.”
Notes: The Shippensburg/Susquehanna Township game scheduled for Thursday night has been postponed with no make up date scheduled. The Greyhounds return to action on January 4 when they travel to Greencastle.
