WAYNESBORO — Chambersburg outscored Waynesboro 11-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but the Maidens got the benefit of two key plays at the end to pull out a 27-26 win in the first round of the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament on Friday at Waynesboro.
Addi Kegerreis scored two baskets in the final minute — the last a layup with 15 seconds left after a beautiful pass from Ella Parker — to pull the Trojans into a 26-26 tie. But on the ensuing inbounds play, Lily Cornwell tried to tie up Waynesboro’s Hope Freels and instead, was called for a foul. Freels stepped to the line with 11.2 seconds left and drained the first one to put the Maidens ahead.
Chambersburg brought the ball down and got it to Allison List, who took a good-looking shot from the right wing. The ball hit the front side of the rim, then the back side, and bounced out.
On Saturday, the Trojans will play James Buchanan at 3 p.m. for third place, while Waynesboro will take on Greencastle-Antrim for the title around 4:30.
Kegerreis, a freshman, led Chambersburg with 10 points in her debut, and List added 9. For the Maidens, Slaydon Fisher scored 11 points and Nikki Davis contributed 8.
