Twin Valley ends volleyball season for Rockets

MERCERSBURG — Twin Valley made the most of a long trip from Berks County to Franklin County on Tuesday night.

The No. 5 seed Raiders won three close games and defeated No. 4 seed James Buchanan 3-0 in a District 3 Class 3A girls volleyball match at JB, taking wins by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-19.

The Rockets finish their season with a record of 14-4. Twin Valley (17-4) will play No. 1 seed Spring Grove (20-0) in the semifinals on Thursday. Spring Grove blanked Manheim Central 3-0 on Tuesday.

JB coach Erica Piper said, “We didn’t play our best tonight, but I don’t want to take anything away from Twin Valley – their size and play at the net surprised us. It was the difference tonight. We fell behind early in each set and just couldn’t get over the hump.”

The Rockets were within 23-22 in both of the first two games before the Raiders pulled away.

Mackenzie Stoner produced 10 kills, 13 digs and 6 service points for James Buchanan, and Campbelle Dayley racked up 6 kills, 19 digs and 15 points.

In addition, Rylynn Welsh had 8 kills, 11 digs and 9 points, Carly Sollenberger put up 27 assists and 11 points, Kayleigh Hartman connected for 7 kills and 9 points and Macy Mummert added 8 digs.

The Rockets qualified for the District 3 tournament in each of the past three seasons and piled up a cumulative record of 42-12 in that span.

Piper said, “I am so proud of this group of girls. They always gave me all that they had. We’re disappointed right now, but this group made history and you can’t take that away from them.”
