GIRLS SOCCER
Chambersburg 2, Cumberland Valley 2: The Trojans took a 2-0 lead, the Eagles tied it by halftime and the teams played 60 more minutes of scoreless soccer in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday night.

“I’m very proud of the effort from beginning to end,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. “The second half was played very well by both teams, limiting opportunities.”

Ahsia Thomas found the net twice in the first 16 minutes for the Trojans (7-8-2, 4-6-1 MPC), on passes by Lindsey Swanger and Addie Lloyd. But CV (8-4-3) scored  less than 30 seconds later and tied it up 3:45 before the half ended.

Franchi said, “Ahsia did a great job moving without the ball and Lindsey and Addie fed her great balls in space.

“In overtime, we had a couple of good opportunities, but couldn’t punch it in. While we didn’t get the ‘W’ we have a lot to be proud of, because CV has had our number for many, many years. Bianca (Sommers) and Addie controlled the middle well, Ahsia (who now has 15 goals) was solid like she usually is and Lily Cornwell played well.”

The Eagles had posted 31 consecutive wins over the Trojans. Both teams had 10 shots and the Eagles led in corner kicks, 4-3. Bridget Kemerer made 4 stops for the Trojans.

BOYS SOCCER
Cumberland Valley 4, Chambersburg 0: The Eagles avenged an earlier loss to the Trojans by taking a shutout win Tuesday night in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at CV.

Chambersburg (9-5-1, 6-4-1 MPC) was fairly even in stats — down 12-11 in shots and 5-3 in corner kicks — but Cumberland Valley got the best of the scoring.

Trojan coach Corey Grove said, “We made too many defensive mistakes tonight. It’s tough to win games when we make it easy for the opponent. It’s unfortunate because because I didn’t think we played too badly from the midfield on up, but we just couldn’t capitalize on their mistakes like they did ours.”

Drew Cover made 7 saves for Chambersburg, which has one game remaining in the regular season, at home Thursday vs. Red Land. The Trojans are currently ranked No. 9 in the District 3 rankings and the top 16 teams qualify.
