Upper Providence defeats Greencastle 2-1 to win PA State Little League Championship

Upper Providence defeated Greencastle for the second day in a row to rise from the losers bracket with five straight wins to capture the Pennsylvania Little League Championship and will represent Pennsylvania in the East Regional at Bristol, CT with a 2-1 victory over Greencastle.

Jalen Bowman accounted for all the Upper Providence scoring with solo home runs in the first and third innings. Bowman hit the  first pitch thrown in the bottom of the first inning over the right field fence to give Upper Providence a lead they never relinquished.

Greencastle’s lone run came in the top of the fourth inning on an error.

The game featured a rematch of the quarterfinal game between Sam Buckley and Greencastle’s  Cam Rakaczewski..Greencastle won the match up on Sunday 3-1 with the lone run coming on Bowman’s home run.

The eleven year old Rakaczewski pitched his second consecutive complete game against Upper Providence scattering six hits, with one walk and six strikeouts. Rakaczewski threw 78 pitches and 61 for strikes.

Buckley had to leave after five innings when he reached 85 pitches, he allowed four hits, walked four and struck out eleven.

The back to back loses ended a fantastic run for Greencastle in which they won their first thirteen tournament games and out scored the opposition 127-32 and advanced further than any 11-12 year old team in the history of the Greencastle Little League.
