Seven run first inning propels Greencastle to state quarterfinal

Greencastle struck early and often  and dealt Hepburn-Lycoming an 11-5 defeat Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Little League 11-12 year old Championships in Conyngham, PA.Greencastle is now 11-0 in tournament play.

Greencastle would get all the runs they needed in the top of the first inning when they sent twelve batters to the plate  and grabbed a quick 7-0 lead.Landon Myers reached on an error, Cam Rakaczewski singled, Ryder Linn then laced a two run double giving Greencastle a 2-0 lead, Manny Brookens single made it 3-0. The fourth run scored on an error and then Brice Lowery hit a three run homer to make it 7-0.

. Greencastle added three runs in the fourth on a wild pitch, and error and got another in the sixth on a Brookens single to make it 11-2.

Hepburn -Lycoming  scored solo runs in the first and second innings and Jensen Spencer hit a three run homer in the sixth to account for the Hepburn-Lycoming scoring.

Ryder Linn pitched five innings for Greencastle, allowing two runs, five hits,two walks and struck out seven to pick up the win. Brookens and Andrew Weaver finished the game in the sixth for Greencastle

Greencastle collected nine hits on the day, two apiece by Brookens, Colin Flynn and Lowery.  Linn, Rakaczewski, and Myers each had a hit. Greencastle was aided by five Hepburn-Lycoming errors.
