Greencastle rallied for seven runs over the final three innings to defeat East Side 7-3 in the Pennsylvania Section 7 Championship Tournament and will now advance to the Pennsylvania State Tournament. Greencastle improved to 10-0 in tournament play with the win,
It was not easy as East Side lefthander Michael Jaross limited Greencastle to just two hits through the first three innings. Greencastle took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Manny Brookens, but East Side came back with their only three runs of the game in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Greencastle regained the lead in the fifth as Blaine Martin walked to start the inning and scored when Landen Myers ripped a triple to center field to make it 3-2. The next batter Cam Rakaczewski tied it 3-3 with a line drive single to right field. Greencastle then took the lead for good on Chase Diller’s RBI triple to make it 4-3. In the top of the sixth Greencastle got some insurance with a two run double from Myers and a sacrifice fly from Rakaczewski
Andrew Weaver retired East Side 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth to punch Greencastle’s ticket to the Pennsylvania State Tournament. Greencastle begins play Saturday July 24 at 12:30 p.m.against the District 3 winner Hepburn-Lycoming at West Side Little League in Conyngham, PA.. This will be an eight team double elimination tournament with the winner gaining a birth in the East Regional at Bristol, CT.
In ten games Greencastle has outscored their opponents 97-23.
