SOFTBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 9, West Perry 5: The Blue Devils finished up their Mid Penn Colonial season with an eight-inning victory on the road at West Perry on Monday afternoon.
Greencastle (11-7, 10-4 MPC) has two games left (Tuesday at Red Land and Thursday at home vs. Camp Hill) to pad their resume for the District 3 playoffs. G-A is currently No. 11 in the rankings in Class 5A and 16 teams qualify.
The Blue Devils raked for 20 hits, including Sydra Royer’s first home run of the season.
Sydney Orndorff scored three times and had three hits, Bailee Martin-Irving had 3 hits and 3 RBIs and Abby Stouffer produced three hits. Abbi Cunningham, Adrianna Beeler, Makayla Jerin, Royer and Taylor Appenzellar each had two hits.
The game was tied 5-5 until Greencastle scored four times in the top of the eighth. Beeler earned the pitching win, giving up only three hits and one unearned run in 4 2/3 innings in relief.
BASEBALL
Gettysburg 3, Greencastle-Antrim 0: The Blue Devils out-hit the Warriors 5-3, but couldn’t put anybody across the plate and were shut out in a non-league game Monday at home.
Gettysburg (13-6) scored all three runs in the third inning off starter Andrew Kerns, who pitched five innings and collected eight strikeouts. Carter Reid pitched the final two innings for Greencastle (13-6) and posted strikeouts for five of his six outs.
Reid also came up with two hits for the Blue Devils and Caiden Smith reached base three times on walks.
