G-A roundup: Layton shines in comeback win over Mustangs

Greencastle-Antrim 4, West Perry 3: Logan Layton was throwing lots of strikes that Mustang batters couldn’t touch and the Blue Devils scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 4-3 in a Mid Penn Colonial game Saturday afternoon.

Carter Reid

Layton went the distance for Greencastle (10-4, 8-2 MPC). He struck out 15 batters (of the 21 outs), walked two batters and allowed just two hits. All three West Perry runs, which came in the second inning, were unearned.

He also helped his own cause with the game-winning RBI. In the sixth, Austin Wyand was hit by a pitch, Shaun Eby walked and with two outs, Layton delivered a base hit to centerfield to score Wyand.

The Blue Devils, after falling behind 3-0, got two runs back in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Wyand was hit by a pitch, Eby singled, Carter Reid rapped out a run-scoring base hit, and Eby ended up scoring on an overthrow.

In the fourth, G-A tied it up — again with two outs — when Eby doubled and Reid singled him home. Eby and Reid both went 2-for-3.
