VIRGINIA BEACH — A pair of wrestlers from Chambersburg competed this weekend in the 2021 NHSCA United States Nationals in Virginia Beach and each brought home a medal.
Zach Evans competed in the sophomore 220-pound bracket and posted a 4-3 record to place sixth.
Aiden Hight entered the freshman 195 competition and went 3-2 to earn a seventh-place medal.
Evans beat Jonathan Fraga of Florida 6-4, then edged Trent Sibble of New York, 2-1. In the quarterfinals, he dropped a 16-3 major to Dylan Russo of Ohio.
In the consolation bracket, Evans nipped Lane Catlin of West Virginia 2-0, then pinned John Vinciguerra of New Jersey in 2:02. But he dropped his last two bouts, 8-4 to Noah Todd of Tennessee and 12-0 to Erick Brothers Jr. of West Virginia in the match for fifth place.
Hight opened with a 11-1 major decision over Will Coker of South Carolina, then fell by technical fall to Carter Neves of Ohio.
In the consolations, Hight pinned Jack Branson of Tennessee, lost 5-3 to Cash Henderson of Utah and defeated Dylan Greenstein of Massachusetts in the bout for seventh place.
