Greencastle-Antrim 3, Big Spring 2: The Blue Devils, trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, tallied two runs to tie the game, then won the Mid Penn Colonial clash against the Bulldogs with a run in the eighth.
“The girls played awesome,” G-A coach Mark DeCarli said. “This is a huge win, now we hope we can keep it rolling for the Big Spring Tournament on Saturday. This game should help their confidence.”
In the seventh, Abbi Cunningham led off with a walk, and after two outs, Adrianna Beeler also walked. Makayla Jerin then clubbed a double to right-centerfield that plated both runners to tie the game.
In the eighth, Sydra Royer stroked a base hit over the third baseman’s head and hustled into second with a double. She moved up on a passed ball, and scored the game-winner when a ground ball to second by Abby Stouffer was misplayed.
Bailee Martin-Irving earned the pitching win for the Blue Devils (5-3, 5-3 MPC), who lost to Big Spring 14-4 earlier. She allowed five hits and four walks, struck out nine and gave up only one earned run.
Greencastle-Antrim 10, Big Spring 7: The Blue Devils watched the Bulldogs score two in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday afternoon to tie their Mid Penn Colonial game, but G-A scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take the win.
The Blue Devils (9-2, 7-1 MPC) loaded the bases in the ninth inning on an error and two walks, and then Connor Rohm cleared them with a clutch three-run double to centerfield.
“Both teams played a great game,” Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said. “I’m just happy to get out of there with a win.”
Andrew Kerns started the game for G-A and went four innings, giving up five runs and striking out four. Carter Reid hurled the final five innings, allowing two runs and fanning seven.
For G-A, Brady Diller was 3-for-6 with a double, Rohm (2 doubles), Aidan Grudzinski and Austin Wyand each had two hits, Logan Layton and Shaun Eby each tripled and Caiden Smith hit a double.
