The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers dominated the shots on goal and defeated Broadfording Christian 3-0 Monday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls soccer game.
The Blazers (3-4, 3-3 MDCC) outshot Broadfording 17-1 and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Sites earned the shutout.
CVCS scored on a goal by Laurel Reitz midway through the first half and was ahead 1-0 at halftime. Reitz and Emmalyn Hott scored a minute apart early in the second half to provide the Blazers with their three-goal cushion.
“We are in the midst of tweaking our alignment as we head into the second half of our season,” Blazers coach Paul Lundy said. “We have had to adjust our plan of attack as we are dealing with some injuries to our attacking players. I think we are finally getting things settled. We were able to generate numerous good chances to score goals, and I was happy to have Laurel finish two of them for us. Kendra Bard played her best game of the season and is settling in nicely to her role as a midfielder. She hit numerous good crosses and our offense looked good. It was a slower night for our defense as BCA wasn’t able to get much of an attack going.”
On Saturday, the Blazers dropped a 6-0 decision to Shalom, which scored in the 9th, 21st, 46th, 53rd, 76th and 78th minutes.
“Shalom is a talented team and will be hard to beat in conference play this season,” Lundy said. “They have excellent players at every position and pass and shoot the ball well. We felt pretty good holding them to two goals at the half. We never mustered much of an upfield attack. Our team wore down late in the second half, and Shalom was able to score a few late goals to really inflate the final score.”
On Friday, Calvary made a goal in the 16th minute by Bethany Carrington stand up in a 1-0 victory over the Blazers. Calvary outshot the Blazers 12-11, and the Blazers led 7-4 in corner kicks. Sites came up with 11 saves.
“It was a very tight game,” Lundy said. “Calvary snuck a goal into the top of the frame in the 16th minute. Despite many very good opportunities, we couldn’t find a way to score the equalizing goal. Regan Bard played a very good game at center back. She hit two free kicks that both had a chance to score, but their keeper made two good saves.”
