G-A roundup: Baseball, softball allow 1 run combined in wins vs. JB

Greencastle-Antrim 11, James Buchanan 1: The Blue Devils rapped out 16 hits and took a 6-1 lead after two innings and went on to defeat the Rockets in a six-inning Mid Penn Colonial game Thursday at home.

Connor Rhom went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Logan Layton was 3-for-4 with a double and home run for Greencastle and both players knocked in a pair of runs. A quartet of G-A players had two hits — Caiden Smith, Darren Kline (2 RBIs), Brady Diller (1 RBI) and Austin Wyand (2 RBIs).

The Blue Devils (4-1, 3-1 MPC) Adam Horst made his varsity pitching debut and went the distance for the win. He allowed just five hits and no earned runs.

For JB (0-3, 0-3 MPC), Garrett Bise produced two of his team’s hits and Hunter Scofield hit a double.

Greencastle-Antrim 5, James Buchanan 0: Bailee Martin-Irving delivered a quality pitching performance for the Blue Devils in a shutout win over the rival Rockets in a Mid Penn Colonial game at JB on Thursday afternoon.

Martin-Irving gave up up three hits and walked three in her route-going effort, while striking out 13 batters.

She also went 3-for-4 at the plate and brought in one run. Also for Greencastle (3-1, 3-1 MPC), Adrianna Beeler was 2-for-3, including a two-run double in her team’s big four-run fifth inning.

Emma Broadwater singled in a run and Abby Stouffer also had an RBI.

For JB (0-2, 0-2 MPC), Morgan Nelling, Rylynn Welsh and Alexandria Lynch had base hits.
