Trojans beat Altoona to extend win streak to 5

ALTOONA — Chambersburg knocked down nine 3-pointers Tuesday night to pick up a 56-40 road Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over Altoona, making it five consecutive wins.

Jayden Jones

The Trojans hit four threes in opening up a 14-5 first-quarter lead (two by Jacob Bassham). The Mountain Lions closed to within 23-20 by halftime, but in the third, four more longballs by Chambersburg (5-12 (4-9 MPC), two by Jayden Jones, boosted the lead again, to 45-32.

After scoring the first six points of the second half, the Trojans got a three from Jones, a tip-in by Noah Yeager and a jumper from Gus Mace to make it 36-22.

Still up by 13 in the fourth, Chambersburg sealed the deal when Yeager hit a reverse layup, and Hunter Noel and Jones made layups for a 53-36 advantage.

“We received balanced scoring, with five guys having 7 points or more,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “It’s sad to see the season end, but it’s definitely ending on a high note, with five straight wins and a team that is very connected to one another right now.”

Jones finished with 13 points, Bassham had 11, Yeager scored 9, Mace 8 and Carter Sollenberger had 7.

Shreffler said, “I’m really proud of how they hung in and continued fighting and growing. The seniors will be greatly missed and in ways beyond basketball due to their character and leadership.”

Seniors include Sollenberger, Mace, Jones, Noel and Malaki Blair
