The District 3 Swimming Championships will be held this Saturday, with Class 2A at Central York H.S. and Class 3A at Cumberland Valley H.S.
Two local swimmers will enter the meet as the top seed, both in the 3A girls competition.
Shippensburg senior Julia Strine has the top time in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.14), which is more than three seconds better than No. 2 Ella Root of Hempfield (1:05.72).
Strine also brings the No. 2 time in the 50 freestyle (24.09), just behind the 23.98 posted by Hershey’s Claire Ryland.
Lauren Wetzel, a senior from Waynesboro, has the top time in the 200 IM (2:05.63), better than No. 2 Sydney Gring of Muhlenberg. Wetzel is also seeded fifth in the 500 free (5:08.79).
In 3A boys, Chambersburg’s Aidan McMillen holds the No. 2 position in the 100 backstroke (53.45), trailing only Theo Lance of Warwick, who has a 52.76.
McMillen also gained a No. 7 seed in the 50 free in 21.93.
The only area swimmer entered in the Class 2A girls is James Buchanan’s Kortney Green, No. 10 in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.86).
In 2A boys, Shippensburg and Greencastle-Antrim each have a group of qualifiers.
Ship freshman Jed Ritchie has the highest seed, No. 2 in the 500 free (4:56.14), well back of No. 1 Alexander Seman of Harrisburg Academy (4:48.37). Ritchie also owns the No. 4 position in the 100 butterfly (54.22).
Also for the Greyhounds, Colin Krause is No. 7 in the 100 free (51.36) and No. 10 in the 50 free (23.61), while Ship’s 200 freestyle relay team and 400 free relay team are both seeded sixth.
For the Blue Devils, Brady Jackson is listed at No. 4 in the 50 free (22.35) and No. 5 in the 100 backstroke (55.85).
Also, G-A’s Dylan Herivieux is seeded No. 8 in the 200 IM (2:08.04) and No. 9 in the backstroke (57.78), while Diego Gonzales is No. 12 in the backstroke (1:00.29)and 12th in the fly (57.79).
The girls at both locations begin competition at 10:15 and the boys follow about 3:30.
