G-A roundup: Girls rout ‘Boro; boys fall to Indians

BOYS BASKETBALL
Waynesboro 59, Greencastle-Antrim 47: Trailing by just 7 points at halftime, the Blue Devils let the Mid Penn Colonial home game get away in a third quarter in which they were outscored 19-5 by the Indians.

Zach Cole

“We just had a really bad shooting night,” G-A coach Rick Lewis said.

Zach Cole kept Greencastle in the game in the first half, scoring 12 of his 15 points, and all but six of his team’s points in that half. JT English helped the Blue Devils with 9 points.

But a 12-point outburst by Bryce Shaffer in the third quarter gave Waynesboro a comfortable lead. Shaffer finished with 14, while Christian Brown led the Indians with 15.

Greencastle (7-8, 6-8 MPC) will have a unique day on Saturday. The Blue Devils, on the edge of qualifying for the playoffs (No. 16, and 16 teams qualify in Class 5A), will travel to East Pennsboro and play both the host Panthers (4-9) as well as Littlestown (13-2).

Waynesboro (11-6) sits at No. 15 in Class 6A, but only 12 teams qualify in that class.

While the Indians were 13-for-19 at the free throw line, G-A made just 1 of 10.
