G-A roundup: JB upsets Blue Devils in boys and girls basketball

BOYS BASKETBALL
James Buchanan 52, Greencastle-Antrim 46: The Rockets lost to G-A by 30 points earlier in the season, but turned the tables on Friday night, topping the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial game at Greencastle.

JB (2-5) led at halftime, then the Blue Devils had a good third quarter to forge ahead. But the Rockets outscored the hosts 17-10 in the final eight minutes to claim the win.

“It was a disappointing effort, and we need to do a better job with focus and energy for the entire game,” Greencastle coach Rick Lewis said. “We really struggled offensively, but still had a lead in the third quarter.”

For G-A (6-5, 5-5 MPC), Thomas Lewis and Zach Cole each tallied 13 points.

Rylan Good paced the Rockets with 18 points, and Caden Stoner, who was scoreless in the first meeting, poured in five 3-pointers and scored 16 points. Jayce Piper added 8 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
James Buchanan 59, Greencastle-Antrim 45: The Rockets raced to a 21-7 lead after one quarter and never relinquished their advantage and picked up a big upset win over the rival Blue Devils on Friday night at JB.

Rocky shooting and too many turnovers by Greencastle led to James Buchanan (3-6) being able to take the early lead. That continued during the rest of the game. G-A (8-2, 7-2 MPC) ended up with 19 turnovers and shot only 37% (16-for-51) from the field and 6 of 14 at the free throw line.

The Blue Devils cut the lead to 6 points in the second period and again in the third quarter, but both times, the Rockets put together a quick run to boost the lead to double figures again.

For Greencastle, Sayge Wilhide totaled 19 points, which included five 3-pointers, Lauren Pool put together 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Mia Libby had 7 points, 7 assists and 5 steals.

No scoring was available for James Buchanan.
