Chambersburg 3, Cumberland Valley 1: The Trojans earned their biggest victory of the season Saturday by bumping off Cumberland Valley on the road in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match to end the regular season.
“This was a huge win for us and hopefully it is enough to get us to the postseason,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “If not, it was still a very successful season and this group of seniors led the way.”
Chambersburg (9-3, 8-3 MPC) moved up to 11th in the District 3 Class 4A rankings, and only the top eight qualify for the playoffs, but those rankings are unofficial.
The Trojans lost the first game, 25-17, but rallied to post wins of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22 to beat the Eagles (10-3, 9-3 MPC).
Willa Moats led Chambersburg in service points with 17, tied with Robyn Stepler for the lead with 14 assists and added 9 digs. Stepler also had 2 blocks. Rachael Meyers led in blocks with 5 and kills with 10, while Marlee Wrights added 3 blocks and 8 kills.
Raelyn Johnson topped the list with 16 digs and added 7 points. Also for the Trojans, Courtney Proulx had 11 points, Sadie Stockslager had 4 kills, and Emily Marquez and Kate Etter each came up with 7 digs.
Frelin said, “This was a back-and-forth match the entire time. We hung tough and made the plays when we needed to.”
