The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers wrapped up their boys soccer season by battling St. Maria Goretti to a 3-3 tie Tuesday in a non-league game.
Caleb Eckert scored all three Blazer goals – his first-ever hat trick – to rally the Blazers from a late 3-1 deficit. The Blazers (11-4-1) were down by two goals heading into the final 10 minutes.
“This was not the way we wanted to finish the season,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “With seven players missing – four of them starters and the other three main players — we were still able to squeak out a tie. My heart goes out to this team and any other team that is playing during these difficult times.”
Mario Wiesman contributed two assists and Ryan Winters had one assist for the Blazers. Goalkeeper Gabe Beckering made 15 saves.
“What should have been a Senior Night bash turned into a hard fight to get three goals,” Hott said. “With (leading scorer) Wyatt Pine out (with an injury), we looked to Caleb Eckert to put the balls into the back of the net. Caleb did a wonderful job of pushing the attack. All of our seniors stepped up for the missing players tonight. Elijah (Randolph), Noah (Randolph), Ryan (Winters) and Caleb put the team on their back and pulled them through the finish line.”
