Greencastle 5, Waynesboro 4: It was a very atypical game for the Blue Devils on Saturday, but they still managed to edge Waynesboro in a non-league match.
G-A, which ran its record to 11-0, had allowed only 5 goals total since the season started.
Avery Parks helped make up for that by tallying 4 goals on her own and assisting on the fifth goal, which was scored by Haley Noblit, who added 3 assists. Courtney Andruczk also had an assist.
Greencastle coach Chris Noblit said, “Next up is a brutal three-game stretch Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday against Northern, Boiling Springs, and James Buchanan.”
Waynesboro 4, Greencastle 0: Hayden Oldham scored three goals to carry Waynesboro over the Blue Devils in a non-league game Saturday.
The Indians out-shot G-A 13-8, forcing Blue Devil (6-4-1) goalkeepers to make 9 saves (Gavin Davidson 8, Ryland Zimmerman 1).
“This was (hopefully) our last game without our starting center back, an anchor to our defense,” Greencastle Aric Bruner said. “We have been trying to switch up our defensive system in response to that injury, but it is hard to sustain the kind of pressure that #10 (Oldham) puts on your back line consistently throughout the game.”
Greencastle 3, Northern York 0: The Blue Devils won a tight first game, 28-26, then rolled to easier wins in the next two games to handle Northern York 3-0 in a Mid Penn Colonial match Saturday.
Lauren Pool (12 kills, 3 blocks) and Mackenzie Branchman (11 kills, 3 blocks) took control at the net for Greencastle (8-2, 7-2 MPC), which has now won five straight. Also, Madison Kirkwood added 8 kills and Gia Dasilva had 7.
In the serving department, Dasilva and Aubrey Garling each had 12 points and Dasilva had 5 aces. In addition, Mckenzie Shatzer made 41 assists, Alayna Welsh led in digs with 15 and Brachman added 11.
West Perry 2, Greencastle 0: The game was scoreless until the third quarter, but the Mustangs put in two goals to defeat the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial game Saturday.
Olivia Bollinger assisted by a goal by Molly ZImmerman in the third quarter, and scored herself in the fourth for West Perry.
Peyton Barvinchack made a defensive save for Greencastle (4-8, 4-6 MPC).
