Last week: The Trojans (1-3, 1-3 MPC) picked up their first win, over CD East, 17-8 … The Eagles (1-3, 1-2 MPC) fell 45-10 to Bishop McDevitt.

The Trojans: Chambersburg’s defense played a big role in the team’s first win last week, forcing 4 turnovers, allowing very few big plays and making some crucial stops … They will play a CV team that has scored only 31 points so far … The Trojan secondary has 6 interceptions, with Kevin Lee (2) leading the way … Chambersburg has been outscored, 133-44 … For the Trojans, QB Malaki Blair has passed 107 times, with 54 completions for 583 yards, 5 TDs and 4 interceptions … Jayden Jones (52-226, 1 TD) and Blair (29-180, 2 TDs) are the top rushers … The receivers are led by Lee (12-199, 3 TDs), Sam Vessah (12-156, 1TD), Nate Abbott (7-69) and James Lilley (6-68).
The Eagles: Cumberland Valley, under new coach Josh Oswalt, has changed from the wing-T to a spread offense, plus an entirely new 4-3 defensive scheme … Trojan coach Mark Luther said, “They’ll do the spread out of the shotgun or pistol, with a tight end and three receivers; similar to what we do. Their quarterback (Isaac Sines) likes to get out in space, but he doesn’t have a cannon for an arm. They’ll do a lot of motion, but won’t just chuck the ball around.” … The Eagles have been outscored 110-31 … Both teams lost to Altoona by 14 and both beat CD East, CV by 1 point, Chambersburg by 9 … Last week, Sines was 2-for-8 for 12 yards and Kellan Walker was the top rusher, with 18 carries for 33 yards.
Coach’s viewpoint: Luther said, “We had a good week of practice; it was a different feeling and demeanor (after a win). Both teams are young, but I know CV will come out ready to play at home. It’ll come down to which team makes fewer mistakes. We have to take care of the football — one turnover could make the difference.”
Notes: Oswalt played for Shippensburg University when Luther was a coach there, and they are good friends … It’s possible that Chambersburg’s final two games, at Harrisburg on Oct. 31 and home vs. State College on Nov. 6, could be canceled … If the Cougars find a fourth opponent to play this week, they will likely qualify for the District 3 playoffs; if the Little Lions move into the 2nd round of playoffs, they won’t be able to play, either … If that happens, CASHS athletic director Jeremy Flores will likely be searching to find replacements.

Game info: Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils at West Perry Mustangs … Friday, 7 p.m. at West Perry … Mid Penn Colonial game.
Media: Livestream (with play-by-play) available on and
Last week: The Blue Devils (1-3, 1-3 MPC) played Northern tough before falling, 34-27 … The Mustangs (0-4, 0-4 MPC) lost 20-7 to Shippensburg.

Ethan Shank

The Blue Devils: Greencastle did a lot of things right last week, and made unbeaten Northern work hard for the win … “We ran the ball better and got into better situations with downs,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said. “We challenged our kids to be more physical and play to the whistle, and we did much better with that … Cameron Medina had a big game, with 125 yards on only 5 carries, and Levi Bingaman had 2 catches for 38 yards … McCauley said, “Medina had a breakout moment and Bingaman made some big plays — we need that because everybody is taking Adam (Root) away, so we need something opposite him.” … Root and Tavon Cooper each have 12 catches, Root for 122 yards and 3 TDs, and Cooper for 112 yards … David Niebauer leads the rushers with 52 carries for 23 yards; Medina has 16 for 156 … Zach Cole has connected on 41 of 82 passes for 401 yards, 4 TDs and 3 interceptions … On defense, Ethan Shank leads with 41 tackles, Lorcan Wright has 38 and Bruce Lepore 36.
The Mustangs: West Perry is 0-4, but lost to Mechanicsburg by only 14, and to Northern by 7 … The Mustangs have alternated players at some positions on offense … Last week, Marcus Quaker was 5-for-13 for 29 yards passing, Seth Rosenberry ran for the only score and Eli Puchalsky led the rushers with 13 carries for 30 yards … McCauley said, “They do a lot of things on offense and move players around, so it makes it hard to prepare for them. And they’re good up front — that’s key to their success. They try to get their best athletes in different spots, but they’re typical West Perry — a lot of downhill running.”
Coach’s viewpoint: McCauley said, “They have definitely played everybody they’ve faced tough. They’ve had some injuries, but they are a tough team. We had a good week of practice, and we’re looking forward to this week up there.”
Notes: Greencastle has just one sack so far, and has two interceptions and two fumble recoveries … West Perry has been outscored, 118-67; the Blue Devils 109-54.
