YORK — Waynesboro junior Devin Smith put together a fine round of 70 — 1 under par — on Tuesday at the PIAA Class 3A Golf Championships.
It was good enough to put Smith in a tie for fourth place and earn a medal.
Playing at Heritage Hills in York in a field of 48 players, Smith was able to birdie five holes, but a double bogey and two bogeys cost him. He was tied with Karl Frisk of Spring Grove, one shot behind Nick Gross of Downingtown West (69), two behind runner-up Chuck Tragesser of Franklin Regional and three behind the winner, Calen Sanderson of Holy Ghost Prep.
Smith posted birdies on the par 5 No. 2, and four par 4’s: Nos. 10, 13, 16 and 17. He doubled the par 4 No. 9 and had bogeys on a pair of par 3’s: No. 5 and 15. He finished 2-over on the front and went 3-under on the back.
