JB volleyball beats G-A, improves to 4-0

The James Buchanan Lady Rocket volleyball team extended its season-opening winning streak to 4 games Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Greencastle-Antrim in a Mid Penn Colonial Division match.

JB (4-0, 4-0 MPC) won by set scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-19.

“We knew we would have to play our best to beat a good Greencastle team,” JB coach Erica Piper said. “I thought the girls responded, especially after not playing our best against Shippensburg (won 3-2 Monday).”

Campbelle Dayley had a big match for the Lady Rockets leading with 11 kills, 3 blocks, 18 digs and 21 service points.

“We did a great job not letting the ball hit the floor and when it was close late in sets we did the little things it took to win,” Piper said. “I’m very proud of the girls. We tested ourselves against a good team and were able to get the win.”

Other stat leaders for JB were: Kills – Mackenzie Stoner 8, Rylynn Welsh 6; Assists – Carly Sollenberger 26. Digs – Stoner 12, Sollenberger 11, Welsh 10; Points – Sollenberger 18, Welsh 9, Stoner 9.

Against Shippensburg, JB won the first 2 sets 25-12 and 25-18, but the Lady Hounds took the next two by scores of 25-22 and 25-23. In the fifth and deciding set JB pulled it out 15-8.

Lady Rocket stat leaders vs. Ship: Kills – Stoner 8, Dayley 7, Welsh 6, Lydia Jones 5; Blocks – Dayley 2; Assists – Sollenberger 31; Digs – Dayley 23, Stoner 12, Welsh 11, Jones 9; Points – Dayley 18, Sollenberger 17, Welsh 16, Kaleigh Hartman 15.
