G-A roundup: Volleyball team raises record to 2-0

Greencastle 3, Big Spring 0: The Blue Devils rolled to a 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 Mid Penn Colonial Division win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday evening.

“We were down 15-21 in game 1 and came back to win 25-22,” Greencastle coach Corry Eagler said. “The girls stayed calm, continued to pass well under pressure and pulled out a win against a strong Big Spring team.”

G-A (2-0) got a big night from Madison Kirkwood, who racked up 11 kills, 3 aces and 10 service points.

The Greencastle serving game was strong, putting up 12 aces. In addition to Kirkwood, Kalea Fugate, Audrey Garling and Gia Dasilva each had three aces. Fugate produced 11 service points and Garling added 10.

Other Blue Devil leaders were Lauren Pool (3 blocks), Alayna Welsh (8 digs) and McKenzie Shatzer (22 assists). Pool also had six kills.

Greencastle 2, West Perry 1: A goal by Theo-Gerald Oreste with 7:55 left in the second overtime lifted the Blue Devils over West Perry in a Mid Penn Colonial game at Kaley Field on Tuesday night.

In a constant rain, the Mustangs 1-0 at the half. G-A’s Jackson Wright evened the score off a feed from Nathan Kirkwood with 1:36 left in regulation, then Oreste won it in the second overtime, with Adam Murr getting the assist.

Gavin Davidson made 12 saves for Greencastle (2-0).

G-A coach Arik Bruner said, “I thought Kirkwood and Murr stepped up at the end of the game and truly led (the team). Wright knocked home his first-ever varsity goal late in the game. We had all sorts of momentum heading into the overtime periods, and Theo cashed in an opportunity off of a flick from Murr on a Shayne Conway throw.”
