G-A roundup: Field hockey, volleyball teams earn wins

Greencastle 2, CD East 1: Jillian Belleau popped the ball into the cage with 1:52 remaining in regulation to lift the Blue Devils to a 2-1 victory over Central Dauphin East on Monday afternoon.

Her goal was assisted by Sydney Orndorff and moved G-A to 2-1 for the season.

“Our intensity in the fourth quarter reflected our team’s ability, which ended up with us scoring, and winning the game,” Greencastle coach Emiley Maiorana said.

Taylor Appezellar put the Blue Devils in front in the second period, on a goal assisted by Abbi Cunningham. The Panthers evened the score in the third quarter.

Greencastle 3, Boiling Springs 0: The Blue Devils swept the Bubblers 25-8, 25-16 and 25-20 to win their season opener handily on Monday evening.

“It was a great first outing of the season,” G-A coach Corry Eagler said. “We were led by great passing by our libero, Alayna Welsh, and some powerful attacks and strong serves by Madi Kirkwood and Gia Dasilva.”

For G-A, Dasilva had 5 kills, 10 service points and 5 aces. McKenzie Shatzer racked up 19 assists and had 6 kills. Also for the Devils, Kirkwood led in kills (7), while MacKenzi Branchman and Lauren Pool had 5. Kalea Gugate had 11 points and Welsh led in digs with 6.
