CARLISLE — In the first Mid Penn Colonial Division golf match of the season on Thursday, Waynesboro put four players in the top eight and won the match by 40 strokes over Greencastle-Antrim.
The Indians’ Devin Smith cruised to a 3-over par 75 at Eagles Crossing Golf Course to earn medalist honors. He was joined in the top eight by teammates Evan Stein (84, 3rd), Dylan Byers (85, tie 4th) and Brady Cauffman (91, tie 7th), while Kellan Smith tied for ninth with a 92, as the team had 335 strokes.
Runner-up Greencastle (375) got a tie for ninth by Levi Tennison (92), while Tim Ehko was 11th (93) and Joey Singer and Cooper Swam each shot 95 to tie for 12th.
Shippensburg, led by Stephen Lucas’s 91 (tie 7th), took fourth in the team match (403) and James Buchanan was sixth (444).
Chambersburg takes 2nd: The Trojans hosted a Mid Penn Commonwealth girls match at Penn National Iron Forge on Thursday and placed second in the three-team field.
Chambersburg was led by Heather Sanbower, who shot 90 to place fourth, and Megan Brandt, who took fifth with a 97.
The Trojans (317 strokes) finished ahead of Hershey (371) and behind Central Dauphin (268).
“Both Heather and Megan shot below 100, which means they’re already qualified for the Mid Penn tournament,” Chambersburg coach Mark Yost said. “So now there’s no stress with that, so they can just work on their games.”
