LEWISBURG — The PIAA Swimming Championships began Wednesday morning at Bucknell University and Chambersburg’s C.J. Pong qualified for the final in the 100 butterfly in the boys Class 3A division.
Pong’s seed time was 50.44, but he swam a time of 49.86 in Wednesday morning’s prelims, which was the fourth-best time overall. The best time (47.08) was posted by Upper Dublin’s Matthew Jenson.
The fly final will be held at 5 p.m. this evening.
The Trojans’ 200 medley relay team also competed Wednesday morning and will swim in tonight’s consolation final at 4:05. The team’s seed time was 1:36.06, and it swam 1:36.52 in the prelims, the 13th-best time. The team includes Pong, Michael Johnson, Robert Pong and Aidan McMillen.
C.J. Pong will also compete in the 100 backstroke on Thursday, with the prelims at 8:35 a.m.
Shippensburg’s group of four swimmers will compete in Class 2A girls on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, Madison Osanitsch will compete in the 200 and 500 free, Julia Strine will swim in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke, Jillian Strine will be in the 50 free and 100 backstroke, and McKenna Morris will participate i the 200 IM.
