STATE COLLEGE — The Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association held its annual PTFCA Indoor State Championships on Sunday at Penn State, and Franklin County athletes combined to produce seven top-10 finishes.
For Chambersburg’s boys, Tyeshawn Worrell was second in the 60-meter dash, Brock Harmon took fifth in the shot put and the team of Jayden Jones, Karter Jones, Kenan Korkutovic and Worrell placed ninth in the 4 x 200 relay.
For the Trojan girls, Camryn Kiser finished eighth in the one mile race.
Greencastle-Antrim’s Taryn Parks was runner-up in the 800 and took fourth place in the mile, and Shippensburg’s Nick Gustafson finshed 10th in the shot put.
Worrell was timed in 6.93 — breaking his own school record — to finish behind CD East’s Shawn Brown (6.85). Worrell also anchored the relay team to a school record time of 1:31.19, and they missed a medal by just 0.02 seconds.
Chambersburg coach Bob Walker said, “Tyeshawn looked very poised in all of his races. The only guy to beat him in the 60 was last year’s 100 state champion. He also ran a leg of 21.8 in the relay. That team almost got a medal, but did manage to beat CD East and Harrisburg.”
Harmon tossed the shot 55-11.5 to place fifth, three places better than a year ago.
Walker said, “Brock hit his indoor personal best in his biggest indoor meet, and his series of throws was strong. I’m looking forward to see what he can do outdoors.”
For the girls, Kiser, a freshman, recorded a time of 5:10.65 to take eighth.
“Camy followed the plan perfectly,” Trojan coach Chris Monheim said. “She won the first section of two and her time held up for the eighth-place medal. She got a late start to her indoor season, but still finished at a very high level.”
Parks, the decorated Blue Devil senior, was timed in 2:11.75 in the 800 to finish behind only Radnor’s Keara Seasholtz (2:10.88). In the mile, Parks ran a 5:00.25 to take fourth; her rival, Marlee Starliper of Northern York, won in 4:44.61.
G-A’s Weber Long took 18th in the boys mile with a time of 4:34.03.
Gustafson threw the shot 53-1.75 to claim 10th in that event.
Greencastle finshed 15th in the girls team standings, while Chambersburg was 16th in the boys standings.
