Chbg rdp 1/31: Trojan boys pick up OT victory over Altoona

Chambersburg 59, Altoona 57, OT: The Trojans outscored Altoona 7-5 in overtime and claimed a hard-fought Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Friday night on the road.

The win halted a two-game losing streak for Chambersburg (14-6, 10-4 MPC). The Mountain Lions are 8-10 (6-8 MPC).

The Trojans were 6-for-6 at the foul line in the fourth period to help get to overtime. In the OT period, they were only 3-for-6, but Aaron Maynard was 2-for-2.

“Just another Commonwealth slugfest,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “It was their senior night and they played with great passion. Our guys approached it like a playoff game and didn’t back down, either.”

Ethan Shreffler posted 20 points to lead the Trojans in scoring. Terell Williams added 12 points, while Maynard, Braden Byers and Eli Shearer each had 7.

In the fourth quarter, Ethan Shreffler scored 8 points, and he and Williams each scored a basket in overtime.

Shawn Shreffler said, “It was a really good and tight high school basketball game. Our guys fought through much adversity to find a way. There were lots of big plays at both ends of the floor.”

Altoona 58, Chambersburg 31: The Trojans stayed right with the Mountain Lions for one quarter Friday night, but Altoona outscored them 21-9 in the second period and went on to a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory.

The Trojans (4-14, 2-12 MPC) could not score more than 9 in any quarter.

Chambersburg had no player score more than 7 points — both Madi Flythe and Sydney Schmus reached that total.

For Altoona (11-8, 10-5 MPC), Caranda led in scoring with 15 points.
